SAFE ROUTE TO SCHOOL PROJECT
In 2013 a group of volunteers applied for and through the Town of Versailles was awarded a planning grant for SRTS. The purpose of this grant is to encourage healthy choices for boys and girls and encourage walking and biking to school. As we know the location of the school presents several challenges and safety concerns for children and parents who would be interested in doing these activities. This grant also allows working with a consulting firm to determine what is required to safely turn this into a reality.
We invite everyone to stop by and see us on the square on June 28th during the Lion’s club chicken dinner. We’ll be there 8-9 A.M. and 10 A.M. - 2 P.M. There will be a chance for children K through 8th to register for a bike give away that will occur September 20th at a bike rodeo hosted on the square in Versailles. Children in that age group can also stop by the Town Hall in Versailles to register for these bikes. We would like to thank Friendship State bank for generously donating the two bikes being given away. Other fun items will also be available for the kids on the 28th. Parents are encouraged to stop by and receive additional information on the project and see the tentative routes being laid out throughout the town. There will be several phases to this project. If the funding is secured the long term goal is connectivity by bike/ walking trails throughout the town, to the school, sports complex, and even the state park. We hope to see you there and answer any questions you may have. We would love to get your feedback.
